Zach Weeks - About Me

A Slightly Longer "About Me":

Since I first touched the tonearm of a record player as a toddler, I have been fascinated with the concept of recorded music. After pursuing sound engineering since 2006, I have established myself as a well-rounded professional audio engineer with a focus in mastering engineering. Though I primarily grew up working with indie, alternative rock, and punk music, I always want to further expand my repertoire by taking on any kind of project.

As of 2018, I work at God City Studio in Salem, MA as Staff Engineer and Kurt Ballou's assistant. If you would like to make a record with me at God City, check out my rates page and please send me an email.

The most crucial thing I have learned as both a musician and an engineer is that you cannot neglect the need to tap into deep creativity while still retaining a sense of technical intuition. I aim to keep my work unique by thinking outside of the box, focusing on interpersonal relationships with my clients to best understand their goals, and not always doing things "precisely by the book." This ethos is rooted in my utmost desire to satisfy the artist's vision for their project and help transcend it beyond previously perceived limitations.

Outside of strictly mastering records, I have proficiency working on large-format analog and digital recording consoles, various digital audio workstations, analog tape machines and other formats outside of the DAW realm, plus many years of professional experience touring with bands as a front-of-house live sound engineer. I attended Berklee College of Music and graduated in May 2014 with a degree in Music Production & Engineering and a minor in Acoustics & Electronics.

In addition to audio engineering, I repair, restore, service, and build audio electronics including (but not limited to) tube and solid state amplifiers, effects pedals, pro audio gear, among other equipment. I strive to have a vast knowledge of audio equipment and how it works, both inside and out, because I truly believe it helps an audio engineer be the best they can be at their job. I also make my own audio electronics under the brand name Epicurean Shoppe.

If you are located outside of Massachusetts or you have a specific studio you would like to record at elsewhere in the country, I am always willing to travel to engineer your project. I offer attended sessions for mixing at God City but I do not offer attended sessions for mastering at this time.

If you would like a copy of my professional resume and/or a list of recordings I have credits on, please do not hesitate to ask.
